PSA Safer Prisons Proposals - DCS commits to response

The PSA has today received confirmation from Department for Correctional Services Chief Executive David Brown that DCS will “seek to provide a response by close of business 1 May 2023” to the PSA’s ’Safer Prisons’ proposals. You can see the letter from DCS here. BROWN, N re PSA Proposals - Safer Prisons - 21.04.2023.pdf

The response from DCS follows the statewide industrial action members undertook on 11 April 2023. This action was in part due to the lack of response to the PSA’s previous letters to the department of 9 March and 30 March 2023 which outlined our proposals and required a response.

The PSA has been very clear about what our members need. Our members need their safety and operational concerns heard, considered and resolved. We need timely, appropriate and considered responses to letters and proposals instead of being ignored or dismissed.

We hope the forthcoming response will meet the needs of members. PSA Worksite Representatives will discuss our next steps once we have received a response and there has been appropriate time to consider it.

Members will be informed when a response is received.

The PSA will continue to advocate across all levels of government for appropriate resourcing and improved working conditions for our members.

In the meantime, please keep in contact with your Worksite Representatives and PSA Organiser as we continue to work together on these important goals.
